Well Linda, at least one elected official is trying to meet with their constituents on a regular basis. Kudos to you for that. I work Mondays, so I will never be able to join you.

  Thanks for your comment! I venture to say that 70% of the folks eat lunch and that's why this is between noon and 1 PM. I appreciate your suggestion about evening meetings but the evening calendar is so crowded that this seemed a good time.
   
  Since June 2006 when I began this effort, the fifteen sessions plus or minus have had from 10 to 35 people in attendance. Having it at the same time has helped people remember the event. The topics have been lively and city officials as well as citizens have benefitted from the conversations.
   
  Try it... you might like it if you can get away from your work. Hope to see you.

  My suggestion for improving community participation is that you not have town hall meetings when 95% of the community is at work. Try a time when people are not working, like in the evenings.

  Join us from noon to 1 PM MONDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2007, to talk about citizen participation and planning for Moscow neighborhoods (no host lunch available
 set prices this time for either sandwiches or salad at the University Inn/Best Western; lunch is not mandatory!).
  We’ll be taking a look at Moscow’s FIRST experiment in neighborhood planning from 1979-83 with the Fort Russell Neighborhood Planning Organization and considering how 21st Century Moscow could benefit from a neighborhood planning structure. Could planning decisions reflect neighbor concerns and creative, profitable development opportunities? Could citizens make their voices heard at a time when it mattered to the decision-making? Could local officials, elected and appointed, be held accountable for positive, productive outcomes for our community’s future? Neighborhood planning organizations in other communities have made a difference in many other towns across the nation and especially in the Northwest.
