[Vision2020] Just nuts?

So this morning I was driving along near D Street and Howard when a squirrel 
started across the road, something in its mouth.  It didn't look like an 
acorn.  As I got closer, it was clear that it was carrying a dead squirrel 
in its mouth.

After slowly making it across the street, it started up a tree, still 
carrying the carcass.

Was it taking it back for a funeral?  Leave no squirrel behind? Or is this a 
sign of a particularly lean winter?  Carl? Carl?
