[Vision2020] Courtney's Numbers

I will assume that I have nearly as much experience in print journalism as
Kai, and that sets the context for what I'm about to say:

Bull.

The DN has been co-opted and manipulated once again by the Kirk and its
leaders. The DN owes its readers a retraction, and Dale Courtney should be
mortified but probably lacks the capacity.

I understand the difference, Kai, between the ed page and the news pages,
and "the views herein are not necessarily representative of the publishers"
means that the guest columnist's declaration that rocky road is the best ice
cream may very well be at odds with the ed board's selection of mint
chocolate chip, the publisher's choice of vanilla, and the readership's
various favorites. It doesn't cover something reasonably akin to "ice cream
is really made of boogers," which is about the level of reasoned debate we
got two days from Courtney.

Facts or no facts, editorials merely express OPINION of the writer. Opinion
is NOT news, hence it has its own page, away from "news".
Quit confusing the two.
Traditionally, opinion writers have been given rather loose rein, hence "The
views expressed on these pages are not neccesarily those of this newspapers
or its advertisers"
Their job is to inspire, anger and cajol people into discussion. Obviously
its worked here.
If an editorial doesn't anger someone, the writer hasn't done the job.

Good suggestion Sue. However, based on the DN's failure to use facts in
some of their past editorials, especially those written by Murf on NSA, etc,
I doubt the DN really cares that much.
