The Friday Letter
A Newsletter for University of Idaho Alumni and Friends March 9, 2007

Dear Friends,

The University of Idaho has embraced an opportunity to significantly
transform the educational options of northern Idaho residents. The Wild Rose
Foundation, headed by Coldwater Creek founder Dennis Pence, has asked the
University to assist in expanding higher education facilities in Sandpoint,
so that together we can provide better access to a college education in that
part of the state.

Last month the State Board of Education gave approval for the University to
further explore the project with Wild Rose Foundation. The impact of the
project will be immediate and substantive; the foresight and generosity of
Wild Rose Foundation will allow us to expand the facilities of the
University of Idaho into an area where need lies. Innovative projects such
as this can lead to new educational offerings that will positively impact
not only students, but whole communities.

If all proceeds as planned, the University would sell a 77-acre parcel of
land-the current site of the Sandpoint Research and Extension Center-to the
foundation for $6.25 million, the land's fair market value. Wild Rose
Foundation would invest $20 million to build higher education facilities for
the University and North Idaho College. The foundation also would give the
University 15 acres to establish another research and extension center. The
University would place the proceeds from the sale into an endowment
administered by the University of Idaho Foundation, except for $500,000 that
would be used to staff and operate the new campus during its first five
years. We will continue to report to the State Board of Education and to
you, our supportive alumni and friends, as the project develops.
