[Vision2020] WA Initiative 1-957 - DOMA

Given the demographic distribution of the population, there isn't a state
where this would pass. Not that there aren't a lot of homophobics out there
who might think parts of this are just ducky, but the bill would have too
many negative impacts on the age group who are dependable voters--the over
50 bunch. Then there would be others who would be concerned with the "big
brother" aspects.

We're a very diverse group on V2020. Is there anyone here would support
this initiative? I doubt it.

Additionally, the initiative process is not without cost. There is a
filing fee, for instance. Did they do that? I would think so; they have a
number which comes from the Secretary of State. I don't know if Wash. has a
constitutional review prior, or just subsequent to the assigning of a
number. Some states do. That requires the hiring of a lawyer to prepare
papers for that review. Even with the "supporting" judicial decision, it
isn't a given. Then, there is the cost attached to gathering signatures
and that can be very expensive. Finally, when the votes are counted and
the initiative goes down in flames, it does cast doubt on the credibility of
the group proposing it. I can think of absolutely no logical reason for any
group to propose, even as a joke, this piece of.........
