The Washington Supreme Court overturned a lower court's ruling on same sex marriage. The opinion of the Washington Supreme Court was that limiting marriage to opposite sex couples is a good thing for reasons of procreation.

In the plurality opinion, Justice Barbara Madsen
wrote that "Limiting marriage to opposite-sex couples furthers
procreation, essential to the survival of the human race, and furthers
the well-being of children by encouraging families where children are
reared in homes headed by the children’s biological parents."
I-957 (couples unable or unwilling to procreate should be denied marriage) is constitutionally sound based on the above Washington Supreme Court ruling.

I, too, thought it was a joke. What's the point of this initiative anyway?
I'm lost here. I see it is as an over-the-top prohibition against same sex
unions, but it goes so much further than that, they would never get the
signatures to place it on the ballot; certainly not in Washington. If it
were legislation I could understand their printing idiocy such as this with
an intent to compromise somewhere so they could claim some sort of victory,
but this is an initiative. It passes or fails as it is written. Of course
the discussion would enliven AARP meetings in Seattle.
