Police not certain if body found in Oregon that of Moscow city councilor
July 27, 2007, 3:05 pm

An Oregon State Police spokesman said the badly decomposed body of an
adult male found by a fisherman last night near the mouth of the John
Day River can't be immediately identified as that of missing Moscow City
Councilor John Dickinson.

"Mr. Dickinson is still considered missing," OSP Lt. Gregg Hastings said
of the discovery at 8:19 p.m. Thursday. "We did contact his family,
but they're aware there's been no positive identification."

OSP is working with the Gilliam County Medical Examiner to identify the
body. A state trooper responded to the area Thursday night and with the
help of the fisherman located the body near the shore on the main stream
of the Columbia River, according to an OSP news release.

It appeared the body had been in the water for an extended period,
according to the release.

Dickinson disappeared in January after he was thought to have fallen or
jumped from a bridge over the John Day River to avoid being hit by an
oncoming vehicle. He had stopped to assist another motorist who had been
in an accident on the bridge.
