Sure, Tom, why not?
I want literature in a Maiandria font printed in green soy ink on vellum
recycled stock with fairies and unicorns around the border, and my driver's
license photo this time around is fabulous. Let's lift that.
I'd run with Joan mainly because she picks up the check at Applebee's, plus
she's usually cheerful when I'm cranky and can change the oil in the truck
for free.
I have some other songs, though, that I would prefer. How about that paean
to self-discovery "I've Never Been To Me?" Or maybe "Have You Never Been
Demo?" by lovely Olivia. To reach the rockin' youth vote, like Bruce
Livingston's, I'd want to include something by Sly and the Family Stone,
which I could then translate into Latin for the NSA/Logos vote. Song
selection is important, Tom; I want to be known as the sensitive,
in-touch-with-her-psyche-and-yours, truly relevant candidate.
I still have lots of black and tweed blazers left over from my school board
days, and so far today's been a pretty good hair day. I did inhale,
copiously, in college, and I was a member of the Socialist Workers' Party
for about a week, but now that I've gone all religious-like, most folks will
figure it's water under the bridge, not that we have enough water on the
Palouse to make throwaway jokes like that.
So, heck . . . I'm in. Do I have to any math or anything, though?

"Yeah, he's pretty wonderful. My man -- I think I'll keep him. And only
one of us has or will ever run for office, and here's a hint: it's not
him."
I will assume that this is your unofficial announcement of your 2028
campaign for the presidency, keely.
If I may be so bold, I would like to prematurely join your campaign. After
all, it is never too soon. As I see it we have barely over 20 years to
light this candle and fan its flames.
First we must identify a running mate.
May I suggest Joan "Auntie Establishment" Opyr. Joan would carry the gay,
Jewish, east coast female vote. This is one demographic that has never been
explored for its potential. I say "Fire it up."
Next thing we need is a good campaign song. I have two that you might be
interested in.
"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor - With this song you are saying, "I've got a
strong attitude and I demand respect. Bring it on, world. I'm ready."

"Free to Be You and Me" by the New Seekers - With this song you are saying,
"I stand for every person's right to be free as we together generate a fair
and equal tomorrow."

There is no need for you to firmly commit yourself right now. I can
secretly organize a stealth campaign committee, provided we can keep Rose
Huskey and Saundra Lund out of jail. You can make your public announcement
in 2026 during your second administration as Idaho's governor.
Keepin' it real,
Tom Hansen

If not now, when?"
