Dave,

I agree with your sentiments but in the specific 
locations under discussion (Hawkins and James 
Toyota), local farm ownership  is not at issue. 
The Hawkins site is owned by Whitman College. The 
Toyota site has been extensively quarried with 
the topsoil apparently sold off as I don't see it 
on site anywhere.

Although a good ice dam by Sunnyside Road could 
change that quickly given the levels of soil 
erosion upstream.
