Let us not forget that all those horrendous 'smitings' noted in the Bible
were at the command of the 'Old God.' God underwent a self-reappraisal of
sorts many years ago (well, under 10,000 years ago to be sure), and then
became a kinder, gentler God, a more personal God. Things have changed. God
would never insist now that anybody go around smiting other peoples, no
matter how icky those peoples may appear.
