First, as a V2020 subscriber you have the right to post information in good taste that you think is important for our discussion (those who disagree can delete)
Second, I personally would welcome you posting those messages from Nicaragua to the V2020 list. Please do.

  Dear All,

After unsuccessfully requesting that the local newspapers carry either a column or waive the 250-word count//number/week for letters, I will make this simple request.

Would any of you who subscribe to Vision2020 be interested in receiving the email letters that Dave Barber is sending back home from his two-month stay in Nicaragua?

You might have read in the Daily News that he is representing the Moscow Sister City Association in Villa El Carmen. MSCA has never achieved a large profile in Moscow, and this is a remarkable opportunity for others in our fair city to know that we have this relationship and that for over 20 years it has been maintained and produced some particularly wonderful results. The trip by Dave is of great importance primarily because he is a retired professional who can contribute meaningfully as a teacher and ambassador while there, and importantly for those of us back here, scope out possibilities for our more efficacious involvement. The cost of sending things is often prohibitive, but what we have always needed to know is whether or what “things” we send or contribute mean something once they arrive: ever the question. He can see for himself and engage people to better understand how we can make more of a difference.

His letters are terrific (with some very minor editing) and they are mounting in number, so now (two weeks into this trip, which is to conclude on March 28) is a great time to journey with him.

I will either post the letters on this site or create a list of any of you who would like to follow this and send to you personally. Contact me personally if that would be preferred.

Please let me know about this online possibility. But under any circumstance, go take a look at the pictures and his letters in a display that Bookpeople (thank you, Bob) will be housing for the next six weeks or so. We are so interested in new (free) membership, but with so little money to operate on, we usually opt to send something south rather than spend it on promotions to expand our membership. There is a core group who do most of the fundraising, and membership therefore pretty much means contributions. But interest is key.

I hope to hear from someone.

  Louise Barber
