House Bill #172 (Victims of Violence - Confidentiality)

http://www.tomandrodna.com/Stuff/HB172_Victims_of_Violence.pdf

This legislation is clearly a no-brainer.

Why did it take so long? Why wasn't this enacted a LONG time ago?

What will those overpaid hat racks down in Boise do when they realize that
the other 49 states are passing them (and us) by.

Visionaries:

Having read several comments about House Bill 172, I write to clarify one
aspect of it.

I became interested in this legislation as a result of my interactions with
an individual who is a victim of domestic violence and is trying to keep her
place of residence secret.

One of challenges involved being able to vote and not have her residence
become public knowledge. That was addressed through legislation sponsored
by the Secretary of State's office about three years ago.

This legislation covers more, as indicated in its introduction:

 The purpose of this chap-
21 ter is to enable state and local agencies to respond to requests for
public
22 records without disclosing the location of a victim of domestic
violence, sex-
23 ual assault or stalking, to enable interagency cooperation with the
secretary
24 of state in providing address confidentiality for victims of
domestic vio-
25 lence, sexual assault or stalking, and to enable state and local
agencies to
26 accept a program participant's use of an address designated by the
secretary
27 of state as a substitute mailing address.

The issue of voting is already covered in state law.
