[Vision2020] From the Local Tattler - UI grad programs facechallenges

Thank you, Mr. Crabtree, for posting this column.

The column clearly states that the Yardley Report, a report that says "some
graduate programs at the University of Idaho are in dire straits, and face
tough challenges if they are ever to be competitive again", is flawed as
reflected in statements made by UI Provost Doug Baker.

I, therefore, appreciate Dale Courtney's attempt at condemning such a faulty
report and eagerly await his public commentary in rebuttal to the Yardley
report.

Thanks again.

Saturday, December 29, 2007 9:25 AM Right-Mind
<http://right-mind.us/members/Right-Mind.aspx> The following article ran in
today's Lewiston Tribune.

A new report says some graduate programs at the University of Idaho are in
dire straits, and face tough challenges if they are ever to be competitive
again.

But one faculty leader said Friday the report is "deeply flawed," and
Provost Doug Baker said that while it could serve as a valuable catalyst to
improve graduate programs, it should be taken with a grain of salt.

"The president (Tim White) and I sensed we needed to take a good look at
graduate programs and research, and make sure they were on good footing,"
Baker said when reached by phone while vacationing in Oregon.

But Baker cautioned the UI-commissioned report by the Yardley Research Group
used year-old data. Much has changed since then, he said.

Hope that answers your question.

"In answer to your question, do you suppose he could be referring to 'the U
of I commissioned report by the Yardley Research Group' as stated in today's
Lewiston Morning Tribune and mentioned prominently in Dale's post?"

As I posted Courtney's "UI grad programs faces challenges" column in its
entirety, would you be so kind as to show us where exactly the "U of I
commissioned report by the Yardley Research Group" is "mentioned prominently
in Dale's post"?

Or is this a simple example of Courtney's journalistic ineptitude, complete
with its typical lack of substantiation?

In answer to your question, do you suppose he could be referring to "the U
of I commissioned report by the Yardley Research Group" as stated in today's
Lewiston Morning Tribune and mentioned prominently in Dale's post? You know
what they say, "Reading is fundamental."

UI grad programs face challenges

I understand that the report is rife with factual errors. And not just
spin, but untrue facts are presented, then critiqued. There will be much
more about this report in the near future.

Standby for heavy seas, as we say.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Question for "Comb-Over": Huh? What "report"?

Last year the UI Graduate Program denied admission to two New Saint Andrews
College graduates primarily because their transcripts did not reflect
completion of any courses administered by a properly accredited school, and
now (conceivably as a measure of retribution) we have this unsubstantiated
attack against the UI Graduate Program.

Note to "Comb-Over": If I were you, I wouldn't be so concerned about the
"heavy seas" as I would be concerned about keeping my dinghy afloat.
