[Vision2020] Does he or Doesn't he.

Rev. Keely,
I am sure Christ is relieved you have taken His spot on the cross.
Again, Rev. Keely only condemns behavior of those She is not friends with. I don't see Her shouting down negative behaviors from both sides of the name calling argument.
Best,
Donovan

.hmmessage P { margin:0px; padding:0px } body.hmmessage { FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY:Tahoma } I stopped caring what Donovan thinks of me a long time ago, but that doesn't mean that I've stopped caring about Donovan. The same goes for Heirdoug and Schwaller -- I will always wish the best for them, but I'm wholly uninterested in having them like me or approve of me. I may give them reason, simply because of my views on different things, to think I'm a danger to all that's good and holy, but I don't think any of them could honestly make a case for my being gratuitously mean, calculatingly dishonest, or gloatingly flip. I may be a feminist, but, by golly, I'm a pretty nice one. Even to men for whom "I'm a feminist" causes fear and loathing, and perhaps especially.
But I take strong exception to men who slander others, take potshots at other people's faith, and harass, insult, and humiliate, in a public forum, their neighbors. I detest that some do so under cover of a pseudonym; cowardice never has impressed me, but cowardice in the service of thuggishness is particularly distasteful. And I get especially angry when they trumpet their strong religious convictions and then behave like barroom bullies -- aware of, and embracing, the hypocrisy of being a follower of Christ and yet acting like testosterone-soaked smartasses.
And so I agree with Paul's analysis: if Doug Farris reads something about someone who calls herself a Wiccan and behaves abusively, why not just ask if this is behavior common to Wiccans, part of the Wiccan Order of Service, or a genetic psychosis that makes people call themselves Wiccans? The answer, of course, to all three is a resounding "NO !!!!", and I suspect anyone asking those kind of questions would already know that. So what is the purpose of the article? An attempt to understand Wicca? I think not. An attempt to smack down someone in the Vision 2020 community? Yeah. And for what purpose? I have no idea, other than it's safer to be an ignorant oaf when behind a keyboard. How manly. How noble. How . . . not at all decent, much less Christian.
Now I know that my saying "ignorant oaf" and "smartass" offends Donovan, horrifies Farris, and confirms for Schwaller that I'm just a nasty little harpy with too much time on her hands. So be it. But while I wish others in the evangelical fold would jump in, I'm still going to condemn behavior like this because silence, at least to me, implies agreement or, at the very least, tolerance. And a lady never tolerates thuggish behavior.

Now, I don't know Keely, but from what I've read of her posts that is simply an unjust and hurtful accusation. She's never portrayed herself as better than anyone else because of her beliefs that I've seen, quite the opposite.
Score 1 point for you, though.
On the one hand, you have Keely posting about how we should be kind to each other and how we should strive to be more Christ-like in what we do on a daily basis. On the other, you have (for example) heirdoug trying to score points based on an article about a Wiccan misbehaving. Instead of bringing up the article as a discussion point by asking, for example, if this is normal behavior for Wiccans or should something be done about it - he takes it as an opportunity to try to slam some unnamed people in the community.
I could care less if that is Christ-like or not, but I do know that it is juvenile and rude.

...thinking that whether it's trying to be more Christ-like or more Goddess-like, a bit more emulating around here would be a good thing...

Schwaller and Heirdoug, whether in concert or all on their own, are gleefully pig-piling on Tom this evening. Not surprisingly, they're craven, cruel and snotty.
Tom Hansen, on the other hand, has done the Palouse an enormous service in compiling and maintaining "Not On The Palouse, Not Ever" for the past three years. Has Tom made mistakes? Undoubtedly, although in this he's hardly alone; in fact, I've had to apologize twice in the last month for my errors in judgment or conduct. But Tom is a good man, a man who cares deeply about his community, and who has done a lot of work in keeping information about bigotry, bad conduct, and bullying available to those who care to explore it. I consider that a valuable contribution. On the other hand, speaking of our pals Schwaller and Farris, neither of them has yet to offer a single item of value or significance on Vision 2020, as far as I can remember. And sometimes, they're just plain nasty. Nasty, but nasty in the name of Christ. Which is supposed to be OK, I guess.
Tom doesn't deserve it, and I'm waiting for an honest, thoughtful, community-building offering from Messrs. Schwaller and Farris. I'm a patient woman, but I'd like to see them get right on it . . .
