And do enlighten me what detention officers should be
doing on some of the shifts when there is absolutely.
nothing. going. on.  No bookings, inmates are
sleeping, food has been served, jail is clean and
secure, vomit or other bodily fluids have been cleaned
up, reports written, etc. Hmm.... Night after night
after night. If they didn't read and/or study I think
the detention employees would go insane! Have you ever
visited the jail? You might take a tour. It's a dismal
place for inmates and employees alike. Even patrol
officers have extended periods of down time though
they at least have the opportunity to drive around and
work traffic. There's lots of hours of waiting and
watching and at 4am I wonder how they even stay awake
for the next 3 hours of their shift sometimes.

Good thing we're not wasting TOO much of the taxpayers
dime on our county employees and are keeping them at
some of the lowest law enforcement pay in the area.
That'll teach them.
