Visionaries:

While I've not been following the Inkster's column in the M-P Daily News
recently, I was shocked and appalled to read today's column. Perhaps this
atmosphere does more to answer the question Dale Courtney posted on his
Totally Wrong monolog recently:
"What's Going On at the LCSO?

I understand that the Latah County Sheriff’s Office is starting to see
employees leaving for other agencies.

I hear that it has nothing to do with pay (since some are leaving for
lower-paying jobs).

And I understand that it has nothing to do with the recent shootings.

Rather, it appears to be morale issues at the LCSO’s.

Please let me know if you know what’s going on.

Here, for your enlightenment is the pertinent part of today's Inkster
column:

"While on the subject of Christ Church, the INKster finds it interesting
that employees at the Latah County Jail are participating in the hiring
process.

In an e-mail circulated Thursday on the Christ Church Business list,
Sheriff's Office Communications Specialist Chantelle Nieuwsma posted the
following to Kirkers:

"We currently have three open positions down in our jail," she wrote. "It
would be great to see them filled with Christian men. The Lieutenant of the
jail, Jim Loyd, is a strong Christian and so are several of the detention
deputies. Other perks of working in the jail include unlimited access to the
jail kitchen (which can have very tasty food) and there is a good amount of
free time between jail bookings and rounds in which you are free to study,
read, etc. Also, if you are interested in someday hitting the streets as a
patrol deputy, the jail is an excellent place to start, giving you an
advantage over other applicants. The closing date is soon: August 24, so be
sure to get your applications in if you are interested. Jail shifts are five
days a week, eight hour days."

Nieuwsma goes on to mention in addition to the detention positions, there
also are two openings in patrol and you don't need any experience to apply.
Not only does the sheriff's office put new people through 12 weeks of
training and pays for attending the Peace Officer Standards and Training
Academy (10 weeks for detention deputies) at Meridian, Idaho, patrol
officers are issued a "take home" car, which Nieuwsma explains as allowing
the officer to "check on from your driveway and check off in your living
room."

But there's more!

"You are issued a handgun and rifle, and you get to work for Sheriff Wayne
Rausch, a wonderful Christian," she continues. "Working as a cop is an
excellent opportunity for Christians to be at the forefront in the battle
against evil."

If it were not for age restrictions, the INKster would be tempted to apply.
Free food, cars, paid reading time and guns, not to mention the opportunity
to battle evil in the name of the Lord, sounds like the dream job to her."

Commissioners, can you please clarify?!?!? Sounds like a pretty cushy job
to me, what with being paid to "study, read, etc." non-worked related stuff
while on the taxpayers' dime!
