Tom,
That is irrelevant and irrational thinking, like that is anything new, so I don't know where to began.
First, a loan is not SUPPORTED by the taxpayer, it is a LOAN. I have to pay it back, with INTEREST. The forced repayment of the loan is supported by the teeth of the government. It was a private bank that loaned me the money, not US taxpayers. So they haven't supported anything unless I die before my loan is paid off. And even then, they just take my assets. If I and other students didn't have loans for college, how much smaller would UI be? I am willing to bet it would have less PERSI participants.
Second, their paycheck is 100% supported by me and other taxpayers and students. Not the other way around.
Third, who cares if I benefit from government programs, everyone does. I benefit from the federal government too, does that mean, in Hansen's logic, I cannot be opposed to the things that people in the Federal Government do, like Bush, Cheney, Gonzales, etc.?
Finally, I am not taking money from a specific individual or company and claiming others shouldn't be allowed to and trying to legally block them from doing so.
I don't see a protest or organized demonstration against PERSI for investing $7 million into Wal-Mart, do you? And don't tell me that UI employees don't know how to organize a protest.
But that's OK Tom, you keep reaching for elaborate excuses and justifications to take money from a company that profiteers off what you believe to be slave labor.
The fact that you even try to justify it is telling in and of itself.
Best,
Donovan

And yet you have accepted federally-subsidized student loans supported by
taxes paid by those very same hypocrites.
Do you accept money from any other federally-subsidized program supported by
(again) those very same hypocrites? Be advised that you have admitted to
this right here on the Viz.
Enough said.

Rev. Keely,
I noticed you had to write a three chapter book to justify the profiteering
off of slave labor. What did it say, in brief summary?
WWJD? Would Jesus take money he considered to be off of slave labor? Or
would he turn it down?
Just because somebody did public service in the USA, doesn't justify their
right to wrong others that are less fortunate then they are by financing
their slave labor.
Liberals in this community say NO to those that are poor and trying to buy
something at SuperWalMart, but they themselves are making money off the
SuperWalmart. To me, this is hypocritical, to say the least.
Best,
Donovan
