[Vision2020] Fw: Are Donations to Benches Tax Deductible?

There are a range of prices for various benches (backless benches, armless
benches, benches with arms and backs). These prices range from about $600
to about $1,200 each. As far as placement of the bench into Friendship
Square is concerned, it's all hit and miss.
Bill London is an excellent point of contact concerning this issue.

So how, exactly, does this bench dedication thing work. If me and a couple
of my buds pony up a few dollars and buy a bench can we dedicate it to who
ever we like and plonk it down anywhere we choose in NSA square? It would
seem with a program such as that the square might get a bit crowded over
time to say nothing of contentious when the seat is dedicated to (fill in
the blank.) Or does the city, in its infinite wisdom, exercise control over
the who and where, and if so what is the criterion. I think I'm going to
cobble together a nice wooden barco-lounger and dedicate it to Denise
Hedler, the unrequited love of my angst ridden middle school years. She was
hot.

Dear Visionaries and Bruce,
YES, yes, yes!!! You can make donations for benches, trees, art, recreation
funds for indigent kids, the 1912 Center (also through HAI, Inc.!), and
other buildings... even for city projects like comprehensive planning or
downtown projects! The City can receive these donations and your
contribution is tax deductible! Contact Don Palmer at the City, 883-7000, if
you are moved to support any such worthy goal!
All the best,
Linda Pall

Several people have inquired about whether the donations they made toward
the purchase of
several of the Friendship Square benches are tax deductible. I inquired of
the City Finance Dept. and was informed that, yes, any donation toward the
purchase of a bench in Friendship Square is indeed tax deductible.

I am shocked that people are actually thinking about doing their taxes when
it is only April 9th. Such early birds!
