CREW, the advocacy goup that first received the emails, reported them
to the FBI the same day that they were received. The FBI declined to
begin an investigation. CREW then shopped them around to various media
outlets and were rejected in several local media markets before
finally getting a "hit" with ABC News. Was the reasoning behind this
political? Yes, likely, it was. Did the Republican House leadership
know about it befor ethis time? Yes, they did. Should they have done
something about it when Foley was picked up trying to break into the
page dormatory? Yes, they should've.

They covered up to keep a safe seat and a steady fundraiser. If they'd
done the right thing two years ago, Foley would be out and they
wouldn't be in this mess. Blaming the Democrats is just absurd.
