  1. What are the most important issues facing our nation today? Do you believe that addressing flag-burning or abortion, for example, is more important than addressing drug abuse or health care?

The most important issues facing our nation today are: the dependence on
foreign oil, the situation on our borders and the illegal alien problems it
creates, and the $9 trillion national debt and corruption it causes within our
government.

Our nation needs to strive for full energy independence and begin going to alternative fuels. Hydrogen is the most readily available and one that would be able to fulfill our nations requirements both in the short term and long term. We could convert within 10 years and free ourselves from oil imports.

Control over our national borders is mandatory, not only for the security of the nation but for our economic survival.
Preventing illegal aliens from crossing our borders will prevent
the importing of diseases but also prevent the developement of a permanent
under-class of workers in our nation.

Reducing the national debt is essential to protect the value of our money and to re-establish a firm financial base for long term developement and investment into our nation's competitiveness.
Only through sound financial management can prosperity be maintained.

   2. Do you support Idaho House Joint Resolution 2 (a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in Idaho) and suggest that Idaho voters approve it?

  No.
The constant arguments over gay marriage and other meaningless
debates distracts from the more important issues facing our nation.
Voters should make every effort to get the government out of "our bedrooms" and limit government intervention in the personal lives of all Americans.

   3. Do you support a commitment to embryonic stem-cell research? Why or why not?

Embryonic stem-cell research or any research dealing in cloning should
be very carefully conducted. It should be further regulated to prevent its
unlimited use.
Just as unregulated use of animal byproducts introduced into
cattle feed led to "mad cow disease", so too could unregulated use of
embryonic stem-cell research, cloning, or other types of research lead to
repercusions or unforeseen results.
While some things can be done, it doesn't follow they should be done.

   4. Does the Patriot Act, as amended, go too far or not far enough, in giving our government adequate power and ability to fight terrorism? Explain what changes, if any, you would make and why.

In discussing the use of the Patriot Act, it must be eyed with not only
the short term effect of fighting terrorism but the long term effect of
eroding America's freedoms.
Many of the effects created by the its use may seem innocent enough, but what will some other leaders decide to use or interpet the meaning of the act to be?
Government has power in times of war or threat to the nation to act in extreme measures. This can be seen in the internment of Japanesse-Americans in WWII, the use of military subjects, (A-bomb Vets) or even the use of untested vaccinations during the 2-gulf wars.
From the very beginning of our nation, the founding fathers have
warned of unrestricted government powers.
It's for this reason any power given to government must be monitored and limited.

  5. Do you suggest that Idaho voters approve Proposition 2 (the proposal that requires taxpayers to pay compensation to landowners if land use rules affect their property)?

In reading the Proposition 2, I find some parts very disturbing in
their wording and meaning.
While I support the compensation of land owners for property that is taken under eminent domain for public necessity, it does not follow that taxpayers should compensate every landowner.
A case in point would be if I want to develop my farm land by reclassifying it to multiple residential or commercial property. Should the local taxpayers be
required to pay my neighbor across the road because they think their
property is worth less because they no longer have an open view?
Could I be required to get the permission of any or all neighbors around my property before I could develop or rezone the use of my land?
In a dispute between neighbors, could the taxpayer be required to pay one or both if land is developed or not developed?
Because these points are not addressed in Proposition 2, I would be reluctant to support it. No.
