Ralph,
People have been bitching about the tax on food ever since it existed. Any grocery clerk will tell you this that has rung up a Washington customer, and a sizable number of Idahoans.
The Democrats and the Republicans don't voice it because they don't represent the people, they represent the interests of their political parties.
Republicans want a tax on the food for tax breaks for property owners.
The Democrats want to tax food so they can spend it on salary increases for teachers.
Neither party has suggested or promoted legislation taxing beauty salons and massage parlors instead of food. If prostitution was legal in Idaho, it wouldn't be taxed because it is a service.
Best,

I can't understand why they didn't raise a clamor when the Idaho
Legislature refused to cut taxes on food but instead cut the income
taxes on the rich by $100 million.
