[Vision2020] 90/10 Rule

A good portion of funds come from research grants.  Quite a bit of that is fed money but with a distinct purpose.  I believe I heard that the UI receives more research funding than UW if you do not take into account medical research.

90/10 Rule

I heard an interesting bit of news today.

You all may not be aware of the federal "90/10" rule for higher education.
Federal law requires proprietary schools demonstrate that at least 10
percent of their revenue is derived from sources other than federal student
aid funds.

Apparently, some universities are experiencing difficulties when it comes to
not drinking 100% from the trough of the government. That is to say: they
are not able to find 10% of their revenue from sources other than the
federal government (which really gives a new meaning to government higher
education).

I really have little pity for a college/university that has to be 100%
funded by the feds and cannot stand on its own two feet otherwise.

Anyone know how much money UI and WSU receive from financial aid (compared
to their total budget)?

It seems that UI, although struggling financial repercussions associated
with the Jerry Wallace/University Center rip-off, are having no problems
with revenue "derived from sources other than federal student aid funds".

Footnote to Comb-Over:  Realizing that you "have little pity for a
college/university that has to be 100% funded by the feds", what is your
opinion of revenue-accumulating, non-tax-paying "schools" situated smack dab
in the middle of Moscow's Central BUSINESS District, among tax-paying retail
outlets?
