[Vision2020] local summer activities

I recently read about the Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness Area that is
supposedely within 2 hr drive of Moscow. Though I have lived here for 21
years now, I had never heard of it (see:

if you are as equally clueless as I am...

So anyway, that got me wondering about other nearby places that I should
know about that might make fun weekend trips that my children can look
back on in horror during their future therapy years.

Any favorite places people would recommend?
