Wilson condones slavery

The thesis of May 4 editorial by T.H. [Tom Henderson] is that "Wilson and
his critics really aren't that far apart."

I wish I could agree, but there are many glaring differences that can't be
glossed over in this way.

Doug Wilson's vision for Moscow's downtown with a cathedral, church college
and related church-owned auxiliary buildings would preclude having a vibrant
retail and service central core that welcomes and serves everyone.

Unfortunately, Wilson practices what he preaches and has a large slice of
downtown already in his pocket. Furthermore, Wilson's vision of education
with church-run private schools instead of "government schools" is
impossible to reconcile with our current system which ensures free public
education for all.

Wilson's writings on slavery, which the editorial dismisses as "historical
inaccuracy," are printed and distributed to various schools scattered
throughout the country and may easily influence impressionable minds.

These teachings go beyond his ridiculous assertion that Southern slavery was
benign and on the whole good for Africans. Wilson writes, "When the Bible is
our only standard of right and wrong, problem texts disappear. The Bible
permits Christians to own slaves, provided they are treated well. You are a
Christian. Whom do you believe?"

Perhaps this does not bother his student Christopher Morris, but others
including African-Americans, whites, Christians, non-Christians, liberals
and conservatives feel called upon to disagree.

It's not "bickering," T.H. It's speaking up for human rights.

Thank you, Ms. Muneta.

Slavery in ANY form, whether it be in the form of chains on people of color
during (and prior to) the Civil War, or the restrictive glass ceiling
applied to 20th century women, is simply wrong.

Seeya round town, Moscow.
