[Vision2020] Insulted

Jack, I appreciate your efforts on the 2002 levy, which I also worked for
(granted, after only two months here). And my intent is not to insult you,
but to point out that your approach seems to me to be not only short-sighted
but narrowly focused. Within what I see in that short-sightedness and
narrow focus is an emphasis on preservation, not progress. By definition,
preservation would seem to speak of buildings, culture (a "way of life"),
and neighborhoods, but it doesn't directly speak to children, and I have not
seen that you've been flexible in seeking what's best for them. I will
grant you that it's not "preservation for its own sake," but I'd like you to
acknowledge that others work not for "progress for its own sake," but for a
system of facilities and educational delivery that works now and will work
later.
As far as insults go, I believe I have fairly represented your position.
Please tell me where I have misrepresented you. If I have, I will apologize
publicly. If, however, you're merely angry with me, please know that while
it's not my intent, it certainly mirrors how I've felt when you've maligned
committee members and MSD personnel who have demonstrated enormous spirit,
flexibility, and committment in trying to solve this problem.

No one's attacking your motives, Jack -- just your method of delivery. If
you're a potential ally, then all I can say is "Hurrah!" If you want to
dump the alternative school for the time being and only focus on West Park
and Russell, that may well be your "pragmatic" choice, but I think it's dead
wrong, hell on the kids, and short-sighted. What's more, I reserve the
right to say so. I recognize that you may well represent a majority view
and me a small but vocal minority. That would be not be a novel experience
for me. I've indicated how I'll vote and how I'll campaign. My cards are
out on the table; so are yours. Fair enough?
I'm glad you were serving the school board back during the Ford
Administration. I was serving at the time as third baseman for the White
Sox -- Little League Baseball, Belleville, Michigan. We made it all the way
to the All Stars, where we lost to a team from Ohio. It wasn't fair; we
didn't even have Gatorade and they were all pumped up on glazed doughnuts.
I believe Sugar is a gateway drug -- but just to be sure, let's ask Barry
Bonds.
