And we should "trust" Bush to restrict his use of the line-item veto?

I don't think so.

The reason the line item veto was held to be unconstitutional when Clinton
was using it is because it took appropriation control away from congress.
The version the Bush Master is shooting for would not be unconstitutional
because the President would only be able to pull out the individual items he

did not like and send them back to congress for individual up or down votes.

An example would be that Bush could have pulled out the Bridge to nowhere
pork deal and sent it to congress where they would of had to deal with it in

the open. of course it will be used as a political weapon by whatever
President is in power but it probably wouldn't hurt to get these pork bills
looked at by themselves in the open. It would probably actually slow down
congresses current zeal to attach pork to major appropriations if they knew
it might be reviewed in the open public air.
