Phil was a class act. That's what made him so unique on Vision 2020.

Jack Van Deventer:
I object to you dragging up an eight-month old (and long-buried) feud
between the late Phil Nisbet and myself for your own selfish purposes.
How tacky can you get? How inconsiderate of Phil's memory and of his
family? Keep it up Jack -- troll the archives, look for spats. You'll
find God's own plenty. But you need to understand that Phil changed
his mind about a lot of things as time passed, and I changed mine as
well. Both the change and the exchange were good for both of us. As
Phil and got to know one another better, by heavens, we grew. Phil
became a regular and amused listener of The Auntie Establishment and
Brother Carl Show, and he stopped by the station more than once with
music, books, and several damned good jokes. Some we relayed on the
air; others were unrepeatable. All were funny.
You want to know something about Phil? He had your number. He came to
understand the threat posed by Dale Courtney, Doug Wilson, Doug Farris,
Christ Church, and its assorted anti-gay, anti-public schools,
anti-democratic, authoritarian would-be theocrats. Phil was a true
libertarian; a proud Goldwater/Teddy Roosevelt/conservationist
Republican. You don't meet many of them these days. They've slowly
but surely disappeared to be replaced by the paranoid, imperial,
Nixonians; the long-winded and short-sighted; the Dick Cheneys and the
George W. Bushes.
Last week, Phil sent me a lengthy email about his meetings with the Log
Cabin Republicans. He wanted us all to unite quickly to defeat Idaho's
proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. It ticked him
off. It made him see red. I don't give a damn what Phil had to say on
July 25, 2005; that was before I knew Phil and before he knew me.
Now, you, Jack -- take a hike. Some of us have mourning to do.
