Earlier today, S. Korea sparked a surprising, second-half comeback against
African opponent Togo. In the 1st half, Togo, a team ravaged by a dispute
with Togo officials over WC payment and w/o a coach days before the match,
stunned favored S. Korea with an early goal. This was later offset by a red
card issued to a Togo player, which reduced them to 10 men. Yet, even with
this advantage, the score at halftime remained 1-0 in favor of Togo. Then
in the 2nd half, S. Korea pulled even in the 54th min. and then took the
lead in the 70th min. on a goal by a S. Korean sub. The match ended 2-1 in
favor of S. Korea.

At Noon PST today, world champion Brazil will face off with a tough Croatian
team. Though Brazil is heavily favored, look to see a contrasting, yet
accomodating, style of play, with the Croatians playing a defensive-minded
game, looking for the quick counterattack, and the Brazilians constantly
attacking the net. If Croatia can withstand the early onslaught, look for
them to catch Brazil out of position by quick, slashing counterattacks. But
that is a big IF, b/c Brazil possesses more offensive weapons then any team
in the world cup. Look for them to press hard early on.

What an exciting tournament!!!!! Admittedly the US stumbled badly against
the Czech Republic, but there are still two game to play. This has been the
sole blowout so far in the tournament, and games between traditional
powerhouses and lightweights have been closer than expected. Deacon, you
and I will have to agree to disagree on the subject of futbol (not kickball,
thats a different sport, silly). But what we can agree on is that sports
and athletics are refreshing and good for the soul. Praise the Lord for
them!!!
