Clarkston city councilor wants decisions made during meetings, not
before
By KERRI SANDAINE of the Tribune
A Clarkston city councilor voiced his concern about the "appearance of a
conspiracy" Monday night, saying he doesn't want fellow councilors
making decisions prior to meetings.
"It's not right to decide things before we get here," Councilor Terry
Beadles said.
It appears some councilors had determined who the new mayor pro tem
would be and how some committees would be set up, before it came to a
vote at the last council meeting, Beadles said.
"It's not right to blind side your fellow council members," added
Councilor Mary McLaughlin.
At the Jan. 9 meeting, the council elected Larry Baumberger to the mayor
pro tem position by a 4-3 vote, with Councilors McLaughlin, Kathleen
Warren and Beadles casting the no votes. Beadles was the other nominee
for the position.
He made his comments at the end of this week's brief meeting, saying
decisions should be made at council meetings.
