COEUR D'ALENE -- Hecla Mining Co. produces more than 7 million ounces of
silver a year, but it is a 68-pound ingot that has the company's attention.

Hecla is offering an undisclosed "generous" reward for information that
helps solve a New Year's break-in at corporate headquarters here,
spokeswoman Vicki Veltkamp said Thursday.

Among items taken from a safe deposit box sometime between Dec. 28 and Jan.
9 was the 1,000 troy ounce -- 68.5 pound -- silver bar about the size of a
loaf of bread, as well as 1-ounce silver medallions, Coeur d'Alene Police
Sgt. Christie Wood said in a release.
