Dear Tony,
Welcome to Vision 2020. No matter what you read in the paper, it's not
all Molotov cocktails and flagrant assholery around here. I encourage
you to follow the list for a while before you jump in with another tirade.
Think of it this way: V2020 is like a bunch of people standing around
in East City Park, talking. You join them, don't introduce yourself or
listen for long enough to get what they're talking about, and then
start hollering. "Snot-nosed liberals," you shout. "Don't tell me to
respect diversity, you big fat hypocrites." People are going to give
you some funny looks. Pretty soon, they'll get irritated and shout
back, or walk away wondering what the hell's the matter with you.
Either way, if you decide later you'd actually like to join the
conversation, it'll be pretty hard to get anybody to listen. (Ah, if
only East City Park came with a bozo filter . . .)
Finally, as the resident socialist on V2020, I have to say that much as
I'd like the company out here in Redsville (population, 1), all of the
Walmart opponents I know are moderately to mildly liberal centrists.
Nice people, but not really much on actual Marxism, if you know what I
mean. Seriously, if a fear of the dictatorship of the proletariate keeps
you awake at night, your slumbers should be undisturbed here in Moscow.
Best,
Melynda Huskey
