Area man,

Thank you for the statistics.

Missing from the list is the extremely dismal record of the UI Men's
basketball team over the last several years.*

However Area Man, (tongue in cheek kinda, sports fans), to extend your
argument: For the UI women's teams to get more attention, they should lose
more.

Perhaps, we need some fan enforcement here. Is Chuck Norris available?

*The relative costs of fielding competitive, winning basketball teams
(women's and men's) is much, much less than to do the same with football. I
know I am risking the death penalty by suggesting this, but maybe we should
concentrate on the basketball teams, and get our battered and bruised
football team out of Division 1-A (Please do not shoot). In my not always
well-informed sports opinion, the probability of building and maintaining a
credible Division 1-A football team at UI is very low given the costs
involved, the resources available, and the recruiting disadvantages UI faces
(including recruiting top black athletes to a town whose major lunatic
fringe crackpot gets national coverage for his views on the wonderful
institution of slavery and how well and nurturing antebellum plantation
owners treated blacks).

Now in hiding for suggesting the forbidden and unforgivable,

W.
