[Vision2020] Western Conservative takes aim at the State of the Union

Dear Visionaries:

There's a very good piece on the Missoula node of New West today called
"The State of the Union: A Western Conservative Takes Aim." You can
read it at http://www.newwest.net/index.php/city/article/5732/C8/L8 or,
should my link prove defective, just go to http://www.newwest.net and
click on Missoula. It's the lead story. The introduction was written
by Todd Wilkinson, but the author is John Baden, a Goldwater
conservative, libertarian economist, and founder of the Foundation for
Research on Economics and the Environment (FREE). It's a great piece,
and not one that can be lightly dismissed as liberal-conspiracy
Bush-bashing.

No, I take that back -- perhaps Pat can find a way. Nevertheless, I
encourage you all to read Baden's argument and judge for yourselves.
Here's a dirty little secret -- I've always been a bit of a fan of the
late Barry Goldwater. I share an estimated 1.354% of his political
philosophy, and that's only because I have a wee Western libertarian
streak, but he was a bright spark and a genuine fiscal and social
mind-your-own-business-and-I'll-mind-mine conservative. Bush's
Faith-based Initiatives alone must have old Barry spinning in his adobe
coffin.
