[Vision2020] Getting a.....

First, my name is Mo, it is how I sign my emails, it is the name I go
by. I cannot change the name on the to/from section because it is my
legal name and it a student account at the University.
I cannot tell you why the owner choose to have dark windows, his
choice, same with the painted bricks and red trim. I do not like the
decor either. The staff tries to keep it as clean as possible. There
were occasions when I would wash all of the windows outside, sweep the
bricks and sidewalk and come outside to find someone had spit on the
windows. There is only so much we can do when people in the community
decide to use their piss and spit to voice their opinions about a
building.
The Beach is not the only bar/club that you can't see inside, last time
I checked the Alley has no windows, and CJ's are all above street
level. When the club is open you can see inside, no secrecy, except if
you believe in the L Conspiracy circulated a couple of years ago.
The owner is in town a couple of time a year, and at those times he
brings in his ideas of what the club should be. The only time you see
those neon posters are when he is town. The rest of the year those
events do not happen. Why judge a place by something that happens once
or twice a year, when there are other establishments in the area that
promote "misogynist hip-hop" on a regular basis. Why are you not
decrying them?
It makes me sad that you rate a place by what it looks like and not the
content of the character of the people that attend or live there. Yes
there are folks who own business downtown who appear to have "class" as
you call it, but have belittled and made others in the community feel
unsafe and unwelcome. While places like the Beach look like hell on the
outside but for the majority of the year is a safe haven for people of
various backgrounds. I think that a safe haven like the Beach creates
more positive community than a nice looking building that festers and
oozes with smug self rightouesness.
And yes, I am old enough to remember Xenon, I did not live here at the
time, but again, you jump to conclusions. I hope that was not a "I'm
older than you so I know more than you" comment. Because I have seen
more and lived more than a lot of people my age, so you can never judge
a book by its cover.
I know you don't care, given a comment from one of your other posts,
you are going to hold onto your preconceived notions of what the Beach
is or isn't. But until you can name me one other place in Moscow or
Pullman that would welcome the GLBT community and offer a safe place
for the drag shows, one place that is welcoming of all people, that
does not allow hate speech of any kind, I will put up with the two or
three weekends a year that the owner is here with his crap. Because
the rest of the time it is a sanctuary, run down building and all.
Not that you care.
