[Vision2020] Ed Iverson

Visionaries and Ed Iverson,

On August 13, Daily News columnist Ed Iverson wrote an op-ed
defending religious liberty, in which he asserted that members of
Christ Church are not “mindless robots.” Unfortunately, he failed
to note that the Christ Church “Commitment to Loyalty” obligates
him to make this statement upon pain of termination. Therefore, I
encourage Mr. Iverson to publish the Christ Church “Commitment to
Loyalty” pledge in his next column, because it would certainly
explain “by what standard” he conducts himself.

Think about it, Ed: by including the pledge in your next column,
you will teach the First Amendment, NSA style, to such people as
Nate Alford. Maybe he could even audit a class! (But first you have
to print it.) Or think of it this way: by including all 74 words of
the pledge in your next piece, you will still have 600 words to
prove that you’re not a “mindless robot.” That’s 600 words to help
us understand the terms by which your resignation would be
accepted, without notice, and without prejudice; 600 words to
explain if commitment to that standard in any way compromises your
conscience. Who needs a robot for that? A well-trained monkey could
do it with one sentence and a banana.

So oil your joints, temper your brass, and steel your mettle. Affix
your signature to an opinion that reconciles religious freedom with
the Kirk Inquisition. Fear not the iron fist. Take no thought for
your life. Let unauthorized persons see your idea of absolute
truth. Indeed, convince your neighbors of said truth. Set us free.

Cordially,

Benton Falkirk
