Greetings Visionaires -

Not On The Palouse, Not Ever (Update #65), more for a historical value than
contemporary reference, consists of a link to:

"We've got to come together in order to make the republic work for everyone,
regardless of race, creed, or color." (Shirley Chisholm - January 14, 1972)

In early 1972, Shirley Chisholm, the first African American woman ever
elected to Congress, announced her candidacy for the Democratic presidential
nomination. In her presidential bid in 1972, the first of its kind by an
African American woman, she won 152 delegates before bowing out from the
race. Reelected to the House of Representatives six times, she supported the
Equal Rights Amendment and the right to abortion throughout her
congressional career, which ended with her retirement in 1983.
