Well, on my re-entry back into Moscow, I find that Jack Wenders has 
suggested that MSD's trustees all step down, as he believes we are terribly 
out of step with our constituents.

So here's my response:

If Moscow continues to be full of decent, hardworking, honest people who can 
show civility in discussing politics, religion, and culture, I'll continue 
as a trustee for this term and will run again.  It's an honor to serve such 
a constituency, and I do.

If Moscow becomes the kind of place where the crudest and most incendiary of 
arguments drown out the reasoned voices of the majority, and if for 
leadership and guidance Moscow flocks to those who hurl invective, either 
out of glee or out of hysteria, I'll continue serving as a trustee for this 
term and will run again.  It would be an honor to speak out against such a 
constituency, and I will.

Either way, whether I win or lose, I'll feel as though I've won in all the 
ways that count.  I'm afraid, Mr. Wenders, that some things really CAN'T be 
graphed, pie-charted, or annualized . . .
