Joan and Carl -
Please excuse my comment concerning your June 12th show. I was merely being
flip and reflecting that even the AE & BC show has its low points.
My apologies and a thank you for being Moscow's voice of reason.
Yours most sincerely,
Tom Hansen
We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are
dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all
exist very nicely in the same box.

Subject: [Vision2020] Judaism, June 12th, and a July showing of "My Town"
Dear Visionaries,
This will be my second Vision 2020 post today and thus my last. I need to
cover a lot of territory, so please forgive me if all the following isn't
completely coherent.
1) I thank Phil Nisbet for his apology re: questioning my Judaism, and I
accept. That particular argument, as far as I'm concerned, is now over. I
would add that there are no hard feelings, but that would be a lie. There
are hard feelings. I'm not a saint; I'm a crank. I would love to beat Phil
about the neck and shoulders with a shofar, but I won't. Instead, I'll just
take a deep breath, assume his apology is sincere (and that it was difficult
for him to utter), and I'll get over it. I have other (gefilte) fish to
fry.
2) KRFP does not pay me, but Phil is right when he observes that I gain more
than just good feelings by hosting a radio show. I gain exposure. I have a
public venue in which to air my opinions, crack my jokes, and shill like mad
for my books and other writings. I like to think that my and Brother Carl's
gig on KRFP is mutually beneficial in that Brother Carl and I get what we
want, i.e., a public forum, and that the station gets a couple of free DJs.
If you're looking for pure altruism, Phil, better call Jimmy Carter. Then
again, perhaps he builds all of those Habitat for Humanity houses for some
secret, selfish reason like promoting the Carter Peace Center or selling
that novel he wrote -- what was it called? A Hornet's Nest? Maybe this
Habitat for Humanity thing is working so well after all; I can't remember
the name of his book.
3) So the June 12th Auntie Establishment and Brother Carl Show was a yawn,
was it, Thomas Hansen? Sheesh -- everyone's a critic. You're damned lucky
there was a June 12th show. You try organizing a film showing in less than
two weeks while your mother's in town on a ten-day visit; you're making
flying trips to Virginia City and Clarkia; you're trying to keep up with
your New West writing; and your dog has a nasty case of ear-mites. I've
been busier than a two-peckered owl in a hen-house these past two weeks, and
now, all I want to do is sleep. Not that I'm complaining; it's also been a
very gratifying two weeks, and I'd still rather be me than George W. Bush.
I would just like to point out that Brother Carl and I reserve the right to
serve up a laid-back show every now and again, and if you don't like it,
lump it. Unlike Donovan, Brother Carl and I are not "Sunshine Superman."
We're a couple of volunteer DJs with! day jobs.
(That said, thank you, Tom, for setting up the streaming Internet audio for
us. Brother Carl and I really appreciate it.)
4) I've just heard from Julie Ketchum at the Kenworthy. It looks as if the
second showing of "My Town" will be on July 28th, and it will be followed by
a panel discussion. Then, there will be another showing in September when
the students get back. I'll keep you all posted via Vision 2020, via Vera
White's INKster column (if Vera is willing), and via my website. Sound
good?
