Visionaries:

I have a passing interest in property tax and NSA. Saundra Lund and I have
spent considerable time over the past year thinking about it, asking
questions (get that part, Donovan?), and apparently, learning more about its claim to
non-profit status than its current president. Nonetheless, I must thank
Vision 2020 poster, Mr. Mail, for his very astute description of the expansion
of NSA until, at some point the population of that center of learning will
spill over and run down the gutters of Main Street.

"It is important to note that NSA's future growth is not merely
hypothetical. It is a coming reality. NSA has expanded from 4 students when it was first
founded to over 140 students in the last year. Now, when NSA gets
accreditation (which will occur most likely in the next year or two), that expansion
will be uninhibited in a new way. With each student paying over $6000 a year in
tuition, the college will be able to expand it's campus in the downtown."

I guess that might make some kirkish hearts beat faster, it makes me want to
vomit. Additional property tax loss to Latah County - that's certainly
nothing to cheer about.

And now, we have Donovan's thoughtful remarks about how he sees students in
NSA uniforms (what uniforms ???? do you mean those pretentious little Harry
Potter dresses, just like they wear in a "real" British universities) pop in
and out of shops like clever jacks-in-the-boxes - doing their little
businesses? What in the world does that have to do with anything? A pack of gum
here, a steno pad there, yes, I know it all adds up....

How bout this for a novel idea? No more zoning "mistakes," and lots more
retail and service outlets, preferably locally owned, in the central business
district.

Rose Huskey

"Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact
amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these
will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or both. The
limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."
Frederick Douglass
