So according to these web sites you listed, it looks like the creatures are likely real, just the claim that they were found on the beaches after the tsunami is not.....sounds like truth (the creatures) was stranger than fiction (where they were found).
I'm still trying to find out whether there is truth behind the claim that there were very few animals caught by the waves, that they somehow perceived (perhaps heard wave subsonics) and fled before the tsunami hit. None of the biologists and ethologists on my other lists could verify whether this was true or just something the news media dreamed up.
And also in the truth is stranger than fiction category, I heard the other day that research has supported the anecdotal evidence that dogs are capable to smelling and being trained to detect the difference between cancerous and normal cells. People have reported their dogs "alerting" on previously undetected tumors. Puts a whole new spin on the phrase "going to the hospital to get a lab test." Perhaps we could put those trained detection dogs that Bill London was asking about to an additional use?

This is an urban legend and the claim is false.
