This would be one of the reasons I have cancelled my subscription.

Subject: [Vision2020] Black and Tan (or "Shock and Awe")

Greetings Visionaires -

While browsing Friday's Moscow-Pullman Daily News, I came across a very
poignant article in Vera White's INK column.

I have copied and pasted this article below for your review, as well as
saved a digitized copy for posting to the next "Not On The Palouse, Not
Ever" update.

"Shock and Awe." That's what the INKster said when she learned of the
proposed new title for Doug Wilson's rewrite of "Southern Slavery: As It
Was," which readers may remember suffered from a severe case of "citation
errors".

According to Wilson's web blog, the new version of the book will be titled
"Black and Tan," three words that give colorful meaning to the statement,
"There has never been a multi-racial society which has existed with such
mutual intimacy and harmony in the history of the world."

According to the Christ Church leader, the book will be "a collection of
essays and excursions on Slavery, Culture War and Scripture in America."
(No word yet on whether the book comes with a package of Oreos).

In typical Wilson fashion, he noted he expects his new book to sell at
least 24 copies. " . . . and would be willing to wager that 50 percent of
the purchasers will be local critics with no sense of proportion," he added.
"Since their idea of critical interaction is killing ants on the sidewalk
with a baseball bat, tongues hanging out the sides of their mouths, we
thought it would be a good idea to have the manuscript looked over
beforehand by someone whose opinion of it would be truly valuable."

To that end, Wilson solicited the services of Eugene Genovese, a man he
believes to be "one of America's truly great historians." After reading
"Black and Tan," Wilson said Genovese provided him with the following blurb
for the cover.

"The Reverend Douglas Wilson may not be a professional historian, as his
detractors say, but he has a strong grasp of the essentials of the history
of slavery and its relation to Christian doctrine. Indeed, sad to say, his
grasp is a great deal stronger than that of most professors of American
history, whose distortions and trivializations disgrace our college
classrooms . . . ."

Well, there you have it in black and white. Or tan, as the case may be.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take care, Moscow.

Note to His Whineyness: Better correct that to read "23 copies", Bubba.

"What is objectionable, what is dangerous, about extremists is not that they
are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say
about their cause, but what they say about their opponents."
