Wayne - could you please post the story from both the Spokesman Review and
The Latah Eagle? You need to include the newspapers name and date in your
post.

This is odd that The Daily News is not reporting more on this. I gave a
lengthy interview to them last Tuesday with people to contact for an
excellent story?

Wayne - The Tribune is doing their job. Might not be front page, but they
are reporting. I find their reporting extremely acurate. I like how they say
where they got their info. from.

[Reposted, since it apparently got lost yesterday.]

Congratulations to The Latah Eagle.

In the Thursday, December, 15 edition, available at news stands, etc, there
is a well written front page article on the HIV problem currently sitting
very high on our local horizon. In this article, new facts are presented
that have not appeared in the local paper or the LMT, and there are excerpts
from an actual interview with Kanay Mubita, the defendant.

The Eagle recognizes the seriousness of the possible trees of infection and
resulting gruesome consequences that may result from the alleged actions of
the defendant. Thank you Kai and LJ for the story and the front page
placement.

Also, in today's Spokesman Review an article appears on the front page of
the Regional Section.

I ask again: Where the fuck is the Daily News?

Mubita was arrested on December 7, 8 days ago. The Daily News could have
had a front page story alerting many of the students (some who are now
graduated and gone, not to return) and other residents who may be now
branches on the tree of infection. Those notified could decide to restrain
from unprotected sexual relations until they are tested now and again in six
months time. Thus, a timely article on the front page of the Daily News may
have alerted at least some enough to prevent further infection between now
and the time they finally hear about the problem. Thanks in part to the
inexcusable laxity of the Daily News, new infections may now occur that may
not have occurred had the Daily News acted responsibly.

At WinCo today I asked the checker who is a student at UI and a very bright
young lady, what the buzz was on campus about this incident. She hadn't
even heard of it. This is a horrific lapse by the local media, the Eagle
excepted.

At the very least there needs to be a change of the managing editorship at
the Daily News! How could not the managing editor, the editorial editor,
the news editor, and the publisher fail to recognize the significance of
this story, the need for fast dissemination of accurate, relevant
information, and its responsibility to the community? Do they have their
collective craniums so deeply embedded in the termini of each others'
alimentary canals that they are unable to think independently at all?
