My son (a West Park first grader) has been doing his nightly reading
assignment from his newest chapter book. It's a lovely book called "It
Happened One Day: The Wonder-story books." Charming illustrations.
It's from the Russell School. It was published in.... wait for it....
1959! Purchased in 1960.

Now I know reading is reading and I don't mind because "The Three Little
Pigs" is still "The Three little pigs" but really, isn't that interesting?

And, amusingly, each story he's read so far has integrated the word
'Queer' into various sentences... quite often.

Excerpt: "Come here, Jack," said the queer little man, "and
see what I have in my hand." He held out a queer little hand, and in it
Jack saw five queer red beans." =)

I can't wait to see his first science text... this just in: the world
is not flat! (except in maybe Dubyah land)
