Dale Courtney (Guest editorial April 11, 2005) neglected to mention his most
salient argument against the school bond levy. Courtney is an unabashed
opponent and venomous critic of "government schools." (Government schools is a
phrase coined by the religious right to contrast public education with their
own private, bible-centered, educational model.)

Dale wouldn't support the cost of re-painting a public school's principal
office. He is disinterested in the conditions of buildings which house the
majority of Moscow's school age children. Unlike Logos School, Moscow's public
schools support a broad range of special education programs, welcome all
students regardless of ability, teach science that extends beyond Creationalism,
offer free access to drama programs and other extracurricular activities,
and hires faculty members who graduate from accredited universities, have
state recognized education degrees, and hold actual teaching credentials.

I urge Dale, if he is really concerned about property tax issues, to turn
his attention to notorious property tax dodgers in Moscow, for example, New St.
Andrews and Anselm House. Unlike his current agenda, that campaign would
actually provide a useful community service.
