MARTIN SPEAKER TO CONSIDER CONCEPT OF GLOBAL DEMOCRACY

The Martin Institute at UI presents a forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27,
on "The Exportation of Democracy." The forum is free and open to the public and
will be held in the College of Law Courtroom. Andrew Appleton of Washington
State University's political science department will consider the
ramifications - both positive and negative - of U.S. and international efforts
to spread democracy around the globe. The topic was developed in collaboration
with the Core Discovery sections on Globalization, which are taught at UI by
Ken Faunce and Doug Habib. The Martin Institute and these Core Discovery
classes earlier collaborated on a panel discussion on the merits of free trade.
