[Vision2020] Column on MSD in the Daily News

I agree with you, Mr. Moffett.

My sister-in-law is a retired grade school teacher from the Silver Valley.

Although classes may not start until 8:00 a.m. and finish for the day at
3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, the average teacher works considerably
more than the implied 7-hour day and 5-day week.

In addition to the long hours, and persistent 6-day weeks, many teachers are
working within an under-staffed and under-financed school district. These
same school districts rely on levies to sustain them from one fiscal year to
the next, only to see the levies voted down by residents whose only greedy
interests are restricted to their own tax-exempt status.

These same citizens vote down levy after levy after levy, complain about
property taxes, then wonder why their children are not receiving the quality
of education they feel that they are entitled.

These residents want their "toys" today as they rob their children of the
necessities of tomorrow.

Take care,

Tom "49er" Hansen

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are
dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all
exist very nicely in the same box.
