Voters,
Letters to the editor in the Lewiston Morning Tribune and the Daily News
recently appeared supporting sheriff candidate Wayne Rausch and signed by Robert
Kwate.
What Mr. Kwate failed to mention in his letters is that he is the attorney for
Wayne Rausch in his $100,000 tort claim against we taxpayers of Latah County.
If you would like a closer look at Rausch's personality and character then you
might read the file (now over an inch thick) of his tort claim against us.
Simply go to the office of the County Clerk/Auditor and fill out a form asking
to see this tort claim file. The tort claim was filed in January of this year.
A person wondered whether it was proper to mention Rausch's mental health.
Response:
1. It should be obvious that the mental health condition of a potential
sheriff is a very important consideration. Why would we want to have a sheriff
wandering around like a loose cannon who may not be rowing with both oars?
Think of the harm and liability that could result!
2. Questions about Rausch's mental health condition were placed in the public
eye by Rausch himself. It is one of the subjects found in his tort claim -- a
public document. Immediately after his filing of this document, two stories
about it appeared in the Lewiston Morning Tribune and one appeared in the Daily
News. These stories appeared so quickly that it is a reasonable guess that
Rausch himself immediately gave copies of the claim and other information to the
reporters in order to get information in the papers.
Personal observation of Rausch's demeanor and evaluation of and attempts to
verify his self-serving statements about his experience and qualifications might
also lead many to make similar conclusions about his mental health.
