Ah, a new twist on the old "government schools" are evil argument. Shoul=
d we take this as a sign that Doug Wilson is supporting Gregg Vance?

Those who want us to vote for Gary Schroeder because of his =20
power as Chairman of the Senate Education Committee don't understand =20
how Schroeder's misuse of that power has hurt UI.
As Chairman of the Education Committee, Schroeder has the =20
power to obstruct Legislation that his bosses in the State Department =20
of Education and the IEA don't like, simply by not allowing it to =20
ever come before the full Committee or the full Senate. That power =20
does not require the cooperation of anyone else.
But to accomplish something positive on behalf of the UI =20
requires the cooperation of others, and there he has no credibility =20
or clout. Because of his obstructionist tactics on behalf of the =20
public schools, he has lost the ability to deal effectively with =20
others and represent the interests of UI.
So the upshot of sending him to the Legislature is to impede =20
progressive legislation that would open up public schools to =20
competition. But that also impedes Legislation that would favor UI. =20
The UI's budget and influence have been sacrificed for the protection =20
of a public school system that benefits few except those who work =20
there.
Voters from UI had better figure that out before they vote to =20
send Schroeder to the Legislature where he will again sell out the UI =20
for the IEA.
