Wayne & All,
Postini is doing a near perfect job of catching all my spam and viruses. =
The problem being that soon after the spam law was passed spam dropped =
to only about 6 a day but is now it back up to about 50 a day which I =
still have to delete from Postini. I considered changing my email =
address to stop it but it is too important to change because of what I =
do. Last week I was gone 4 days and had 158 spam messages in Postini =
when I got back. I think the number of spams I get now is back up to =
what I got before the law went into effect. It only had a short term =
effect on what Spam I get.
The law is a good idea but someone needs to enforce it and the only way =
it can work is to report those violating it. The past couple weeks I =
have been sending all my Spam to UCE@ftc.com which is supposed to be the =
Federal Trade Commission charged with "spanking" the guilty parties. (I =
really don't know if it will work or not). Its a lot of work but don't =
know any other way to stop it.
Some of the subjects have changed now to include "Lonely Wives" and =
"Hook up with a lonely wife who is waiting" and "Horney Wives" sites are =
also out there. Penis enhancers seem to be down a little and there are =
more "Generic Viagra" sites. I had one the other day to get a "Preachers =
Degree" that I was going to send to Wayne Fox. Said you could marry, =
hear confessions, and all that good stuff.
I am not in favor of having to pay to send email. They need a program =
that will send Spam back to the sender without having to do something on =
our end but that probably wouldn't be practical. I occasionally get a =
message in Postini that is legitimate and even an occasional Vision2020 =
post. Let the Spam mailers pay $0.10 a message which is much less than =
snail mail.

Interested Parties,
It might be interesting to see how Vision 2020 subscribers feel about =
the
effects of recent federal anti-spam legislation.
How does the average number per week now compare with before the
legislation?
Has the kind or subjects of the spam changed in any way since the
legislation?
Do you agree will Bill Gates that users (all) of email should pay =
postage?
To those that use Postini: What is your opinion? How could it be =
improved?
What kind of solutions would you propose for controlling or eliminating
spam?
What other comments do you have about spam?
Wayne Fox
