Dear Visionaries:
Could any educators who have training and experience in elementary or
secondary methods, comment on "The Lost Tools of Learning" by Dorothy Sayers. The
text may be found at : < http://www.gbt.org/text/sayers.html >
Ms. Sayers had very limited teaching experience - and practically no
experience with children. Her only child was born prior to her marriage. The child
was turned over immediately to a cousin to be raised, although she apparently
supported her son financially. http://www.kirjasto.sci.fi/dlsayers.htm
What to professionals educators think about Ms. Sayers notions? She wrote
the essay at age 54 - (1947), so it does not come in close proximity to her own
educational experience. I am also curious about what might have prompted her
to write about a subject and field in which she had so little training and
direct knowledge. This methodology seems to fly in the face of child development
theory, but I am untrained in this area myself and would like the opinion of
trained and experienced experts.
Thanks,
Rose Huskey
